Warning tile

Warning tiles that have been specially designed for persons with a vision impairment have been installed on the edges of certain platforms of the Transilien, the Metro, the Tramway and the RER.

They are sensitive to the touch with the foot or with a cane (the tiles have round studs).

The "warning tile" name that is given to them clearly illustrates the function of this detection system that is important for persons with a vision impairment. Placed 50cm away from the platform edge, their purpose is to warn travellers of the closeness of the track. Another important aspect is that these tiles contrast in colour with the rest of the platform edge, hence serving as an additional marker for those persons who have retained partial vision.

Moreover, prolonged standing on these tiles makes a person uncomfortable, which encourages people to spontaneously stand back from them.
